About Assistant City Manager Cosentino
Aaron Cosentino started at the City of Elgin in 2008 with a two-year internship serving a dual role with responsibilities in public works and the city manager’s office. Hired on full-time in 2010 as the City’s sustainability and grants coordinator, Cosentino was instrumental in development and adoption of City of Elgin’s first Sustainability Action Plan, a public planning process which involved more than 100 community volunteers. He plays a vital role in the coordination, design and writing of the City’s annual budget, departmental performance reporting and has helped introduce many of the new technologies implemented in the City. Cosentino earned a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in urban planning.
Cosentino's role as assistant city manager will focus on internal operations with oversight in areas related to the budget and financial plan, performance management and technology. He will serve as a resource regarding day-to-day operations within the City.
About Assistant City Manager Valdez
Laura Valdez has worked at the City of Elgin since 2012, and brings four years of previous experience working in education and local government settings. She began as an intern in Elgin’s human resources department and city manager’s office, where she played a lead role in managing the implementation of Elgin’s 311 Contact Center in 2014. Valdez co-developed the City’s dual-language 311 mobile app and continues to work with departments and community agencies in enhancing citizen access to city information and public services. She is a member of the City’s budget team and oversees the Strategic Plan Advisory Commission who helped craft Elgin’s 2018-2022 Strategic Principles and Priorities. Valdez will continue her role as point person for many local agencies and nonprofits to help align resources to achieve collective goals. Valdez obtained a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education.
