Each year, the City of Elgin Human Relations Commission takes great pride in presenting a weekend of activities celebrating the life of one of our country's greatest civil rights leaders, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The City of Elgin Human Relations Commission and the 2023 Dr. King Celebration Committee invite our
community to a premiere screening of INVENTED Before You Were Born, a feature documentary by
Jonathan Knight and Le Datta Grimes. Both filmmakers, along with Former U46 School Board Member,
author and Larkin High Alumnus, Traci Ellis, will be on hand for an audience Q&A session following the
film.

Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to students who have demonstrated an active interest and meaningful involvement in the areas of human rights, civil rights, social justice and/or world peace. Scholarships may also be awarded to students whose activities are exemplary and reflect the ideals and life of Dr. King. Click here for the 2023 scholarship application.

For the past 10 years, the Dr. King Food Drive has collected thousands of pounds of food for the less fortunate in our community. One dollar equals eight pounds of food. To donate online click here!
