Opiate Addiction? We can help.
Opiate overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. Over the past several years, it has been a major public health concern in Illinois and the nation. The Elgin Police Department seeks to reduce the number of fatal and nonfatal overdoses in Elgin by facilitating immediate placement assistance for those seeking treatment.
What addictions can the Elgin Police Department help with?
- Morphine
- Heroin
- Fentanyl
- Oxycodone as found in OxyContin®, Percocet® and Percodan®
- Hydrocodone as found in Vicodin®
How quickly will a person get into a treatment program?
It is recognized that there is a narrow window, generally 12 – 24 hours, to help a person addicted to opiates when they decide they want help. The purpose of this program is to get those seeking assistance into treatment right away.
Where do I go?
Any Elgin resident who enters our department at 151 Douglas Avenue, Elgin IL, and requests help with their addiction to opiates will be immediately screened into the We Can Help initiative.
What if I still have drugs with me when I come to the Elgin Police Department?
Inform the officer you have items to relinquish. We will take them for destruction and you will not be criminally charged.
What can I expect when I tell an officer, I want help?
You can expect that our officers will be professional, compassionate and understanding at all times. We will explain the initiative to you and we will work with our providers to get you the help you are seeking for your opiate addiction.
Helping individuals overcome their opiate addiction is this program’s main goal.
