April 4, 2023 Information on the Consolidated General Elections
The Consolidated General Election will be held on April 4, 2023. This election includes contests for city council seats, including the mayor, library district elected offices, school boards, and fire districts. Your ballot may look different than other Elgin residents depending on the boundaries of the district in which you reside.
Elgin residents who are registered to vote can apply to vote by mail, vote early, or vote on Election Day at the designated polling place. Voting information and locations also differ by county of residence.

Municipal Election Petitions for Candidacy
Filing period for packets begins November 21, 2022
PLEASE NOTE: The City Clerk’s Office will NOT ACCEPT any petition for filing after 5:00 p.m. on the last day of the filing period. This applies to any individual(s) waiting in line as of the 5:00 p.m. deadline who has not yet filed his/her petition(s).
Petitions for nomination must be filed with the City Clerk’s Office no sooner than 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022, and no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022. The placement of names on the ballot will be in the order of filing.
Petitions for candidacy for the 2023 Elgin municipal election are available in the City Clerk’s Office located in City Hall, Room 202, 150 Dexter Court. The Elgin City Council will have the position of four Councilmember seats for a four-year term open in the 2023 election.
A Consolidated Primary Election will only be required if more than four (4) electors file their candidacy for mayor or if more than sixteen (16) electors file their candidacy for the four Councilmember terms up for election If a Consolidated Primary Election is necessary, it will be held on February 28, 2023. The Consolidated General Election will be held on April 4, 2023.
