The National Street Metra station is poorly maintained. The sidewalks aren't plowed in the winter. The interior of the station and shelters are dirty and graffiti abounds. While I realize that some of this maintenance is the responsibility of other groups, we as a city can't get away with saying it's someone else's fault as it reflects badly on us. In many cases, our train stations are the gateway to our city, and they should be in good repair and welcoming.
I also have concerns with pedestrian safety at the station. Since it was redesigned, the west-side intersection is dangerous for pedestrians, and I think simple improvements would make a big difference. For instance, the eastbound sidewalk could be extended into the parking lot so that pedestrians and vehicles cross at a right angle rather than an oblique angle.
